This is a half-day workshop run by Anthony Ferrara.
This class is designed to be an introduction to the Joomla 1.5 Framework API. Topics to be covered include: class naming convention, layout, function and interaction; design methodology; building a standalone application. These topics will form a building block for Andrew Eddie's workshop on building 1.5 extensions.
This is a good workshop for developers wishing to utalize the Joomla framework in their own applications and extensions.
NOTE: This course focuses on the underlying framework. All principals and lessons can be applied to either writing Joomla extensions, or custom applications that don't use the CMS.
How long is the class?3 hours.
What do I need to bring? No materials will be required but a laptop with your editor of choice and a running Joomla site is desirable so you can follow along.
Do I need any technical knowledge?Basic programming skills will be required and there is an expectation that you can read programming and markup languages such as PHP, Javascript and HTML. Understanding of Object Oriented Programing techniques is recomended.
Do I need to know anything about Joomla? No. Joomla newcomers are welcome.
Who teaches the classes?Anthony, now 25, was brought up with computers. His father, a former developer for AT&T, taught Anthony how to program from a very early age (some accounts are as early 4 years old). He has a diverse background including a degree in Mathmatics, a private pilot's license, EMT, and is a state-certified firefighter. He now is a professional PHP developer who believes in the power of open source and community involvement.
Anthony Ferrara current serves as a Development Coordinator and Core Team member of Joomla!. The role looks after teams responsible for the development of new releases, quality control, maintenance and security of the software. This involves many volunteer hours and duties ranging between pure coding, organising project teams, strategic planning and people management.
